The people of the Czech Republic make May 1st a day against Communism
Anchor : The former country of Czechoslovakia was ruled by Communism for 40 years. But now the Confederation of Political Prisoners and other supporters, have announced that May 1st will be known as the day without communism. Here's more from our correspondent in Prague.
Story : The Czech Republic is located in Central Europe. Until 1989 former Czechoslovakia was under the rule of the Communist party. Czech people had experienced labour camps, the totality of the only party. Thousands of people died in jail, two hundred thousand were in prison, many people emigrated. But fortunately in 1989, Czechoslovakia regained its freedom through the peaceful "Velvet Revolution" and became a democratic country again. Since then everyone is free of speech and religion.
Sixteen years after the revolution Czech people call again. NEVER MORE! We don't want the communist regime. The leading Czech pop groups gave concerts until late night hours.
Reporter : "There are still communist governments in some countries, but the most powerful one is in China. What message would you send out to Chinese people who would like to quit?"
Mr. Hrubes(organiser of this event) : "I wish them the courage. And I also admire that such brave people still exit and that there is more and more of them."
Former political prisoner : "And I think of you, endure. Be brave."
Mr. Sinagl(independent publicist) : "I wish the Chinese people - to live in a democratic country soon. And good morality. And the people who committed crimes should be punished soon."
